Hi Karl

Normally you can connect a printer via System > Administration > Printing. But it seems that your printer is not supported.

Try the homepage of canon.

Hope this helps.

Hello Karl,

It seems that your printer is not supported by Linux at the moment.
However, there are several ways to make this printer work at least partially under Ubuntu.

Just connect the printer as peter said and select the Canon PIXMA iP5300 as driver/model.
It is probably not fully workable solution, but you will be able to print with the MX850 printer.

Another way to make your printer work under Linux is to use TurboPrint. It is not free, but it will give you the best result.
You can buy full version or download trial, which prints TurboPrint logo to the middle of paper, at http://www.turboprint.info/

Hope this will help you,
Good luck.
