Brother DCP-340CW on Ubuntu 8.04

Asked by swift240

I have put Ubuntu 8.04 32bit on my wifes P4,
She is very happy with it but she has the Brother DCP-340CW printer and so far I cant not get it to work.

I have used the other driver that has been recommended to use but that don't work either.
MFC1200

She really does not want to get rid of the printer as its fairly new to her.

How can I get it to print please.

TIA

Mike.

Hi,

Please try the following:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (type each then hit <enter>)

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install brother-cups-wrapper-extra brother-lpr-drivers-extra

Then try adding the DCP-340CW printer driver using the printer wizard. Or go to

http://localhost:631/ and then choose "add printer".

If you cannot find the 340CW printer in the printer list, then try the MFC-210C printer driver instead.

See this URL for details:
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/BrotherDriverPackaging

If the procedure I just described, does not work, then here is a longer, more detailed procedure:

Regards,

Mark

Hi,

In case you still have issues installing the driver, here is a direct link to the MFC-210C driver:
