Network Printer problem with connection......

Asked by johnlon

I have looked through the posts above, but nothing helps. I have a pc and a laptop, running under XP, and on both I have installed Ubuntu. PC with Wubi, and the Laptop partitioning the drive. They are sharing via a router, the printer works via remote on the laptop in Windows, but I cant get it to work in Ubuntu, it keeps saying its not connected.

Baring in mind, I have only been using Ubuntu for about 3 weeks, and I'm finding it really frustrating and confusing with all the terminology, can somebody help me connect the laptop so that the printer works/

Thank you.

John.

I have an update, I am now getting a message stating

Session set-up failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

cannot get the ticket cache for nobody

That's what keeps flashing next to the printer option.

I found that I had to make the printer have a static ip address. For example 192.168.0.70 if the router's ip address is 192.168.0.1, so that they are on the same local area network. You should be able to do this using Ubuntu & Firefox with an address of 192.168.x.y (lookup details of this in the printer manual.

You the ann a printer (In Ubuntu: Administration - Printers. I have a Brother HL-5250DN networked printer. I found that the most reliable option is to use the Socket option with the same printer ip address as above and using port 9100.

Thank you for your reply. I have tried every option to get it to work and I am not having much success, I am now getting a printer busy message, saying it will try again in so many seconds, yet, it will work under windows. The funny thing is, on my old hd, I installed the printer before I installed Ubuntu, and it worked perfectly then, without any fiddling, now it just wont recognise the printer.

I looked up what you suggested in my printers manual, and couldnt find anything there, I even called HP, and after almost an hour of waiting, and being transferred to 2 different support techs, they eventually said that they didnt support Ubuntu/Linux. How do you make the printer have a static IP address.

Thank you again.
