CAN YOU BE ALITTLE MORE DESCRIPTIVE AS TO THE PERAMITERS of your system as well as

what you are getting stuck on

this seems to be a issue with your system and not Ubunru

As far what I know is that I'm using UBUNTU, I have the CD with the files to install the software but I don't know how to convert them to start installing them (coz the files are only for Windows or Mac systems). There's where I get stuck. Which are the parameters that you need to know exactly?

Is not a problem with my system or Ubuntu, what I need is just technical support coz I don't know how to do it.

Hello Ane

You do not need the Epson CD to install an Epson printer on Linux.

Your Linux system should recognise that there is a printer to install, and you must select the drivers from a list.

Connect the printer to your computer and turn it on.

If you have Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron, go to System/Administration/Printing and a dialog box will pop up

it will probably show your printer, if it doesn't i think you go to Edit/New Printer.

In the dialog box, under Description write EPSON STYLUS CX9300F

under DEvice URL it may be something like USB#0 or USB#1 or USB #1 EPSON STYLUS CX9300F
(in other words you are telling the computer where your printer is)

under Make and Model. the box may show EPSON STYLUS CX9300F or it may show something different ... whatever it shows, try to print out a test page. If nothing happens after 5 minutes you know you need a different driver, you will have to click on Change and try earlier Epson CX printers till one works

I have an Epson Stylus D92 ... Ubuntu recognised it as needing D88 drivers (because Ubuntu doesn't supply D92 drivers i.e. bits of software to tell your computer about your printer) but Ubuntu was wrong and my printer didn't work ... so In the dialog box, i clicked on Change and selected D68 drivers and my printer worked perfectly.

Best of Luck

hello ane

to get alien, open a terminal and first, to make sure ubuntu has all the information to hand, type:

sudo apt-get update (press Enter)

give your password when asked, you will not see your password but the terminal will see it; wait a minute until your password has been accepted and then type:

sudo apt-get install alien (press Enter)

the program will install

to use alien, if you are converting a .rpm file with alien, for example RealPlayer11GOLD.rpm, then you would
go the directory where the file is by using the command cd (change directory) for example:

cd/home/ane/Downloads/ (press Enter)

then you would convert the file to a debian file which ubuntu can use (debian is the mother of ubuntu):

sudo alien -k RealPlayerGOLD.rpm

and when the file is converted and its name changed, you would install the deb file, for example:

sudo dpkgf -i filename.deb which in our RealPlayer example in fact is:

sudo dpkg -i realplayer_11.0.0.4028-20080225_i386.deb

hi
installing cups-driver-gutenprint (5.3.2-1) by synaptic Epson Stylus D92 is supported and works fine

Just as a quick note ... Ubuntu 9.0.4 Recognises the D92 automatically - and prints quite happily :-)
