zdesigner for zebra printer won't allow usb connection

I am using wine to install zdesigner2 for label printing on a LP2844-z zebra printer. Printer is installed and prints a test page. zdesigner asks for a port during setup but won't allow a usb port. lsusb in terminal shows that the printer is available on a usb port.
How do I overcome this problem. I hope I have said enough as I am relatively new to Ubuntu.
The program is a windows program and works fine in xp. I am using Ubuntu 14.0.4
