The site you need to get drivers from is not Europe but Asia.

The following URL gives you information on which driver to use for the printer and where to get this driver:

http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-PIXMA_MP110

The scanner is not supported as far as I know.

I filled a bug a few months ago and yesterday I finally solved problem with the printer.
Link to usable drivers I found and a little guide about how to install them is available here:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/292205/comments/3

Hope this helps.

The easiest way to use this printer seems to be to do the following

1) Add a new software source (System -> Administration -> Software Sources)

deb http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~takushi/ubuntu ./

2) Install the following packages (System -> Administration -> Synaptic)

libcnbj-2.5 bjfilter-2.5 pstocanonbj

3) Add the printer normally and when it asks you to pick the driver, find Canon and under that choose iP1000.

After this printing works. Canon website says that they do have scanner drivers for linux for some models, but I have not tested this.

Hi,

this is actually not working for me.
If I try to update the pascage list from terminal, I always get ignored for the apt line

Lukas: If you post the content of /etc/apt/sources.list and then post the output produced by "sudo apt-get update", I might be able to help you.

Mikko: In the sources.list file is just the apt line as you posted and some others.

Output from apt-get, the URL is simply ignored:

Ign http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp ./ Release.gpg
Ign http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp ./ Translation-cs
Ign http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp ./ Release
Ign http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp ./ Packages
Cíl http://mambo.kuhp.kyoto-u.ac.jp ./ Packages

Except the last line, saying "Target".

You can make sure, those files really don't exist (error 404) except the Packages file.
However, I have no idea on how to access its content, becouse it's opening in archive manager and when I try to open or extract it, it just throws an error "(null)". And it is even not readable.

Maybe this guide worked on some later distributions, but it didn't work for me ever. So it means, this is unusable on Ubuntu distribution starting somewhere from Hardy or Gutsy.

It works just fine for me. Doesn't the last line mean that it found the packages?

What happens if you do

sudo apt-get install libcnbj-2.5 bjfilter-2.5 pstocanonbj

Hm, don't know, but those packages simply aren't listed in my package list, I can't even find them using Synaptic or aptitude search.

Running apt-get install ... of course throws an error that those packages cannot be found.

Maybe you've got a different OS, I have Ubuntu Intrepid 64bit desktop edition.

I have tested this with Jaunty 32bit on two different computers. I have 64bit kubuntu on one machine that I will test next. If that does not work, then it can be that the driver is only for the 32 bit architecture.

Yes, seems very realistic to me.

I can confim than on my 64bit Kubuntu Jaunty this method does not work.

So it is an easy way to set up MP110 for 32 bit systems. I do not know if canon has released 64 bit drivers.

No, it doesn't.

The only way to get this printer working on 64bit Ubuntu which I found is availble on the link posted by me in the second comment.

Kiitos ohjeesta Mikko, sain vihdoinkin tulostimen toimimaan. Saisipa vielä skannauksenkin toimimaan.

As far as I know, there are not linux drivers for the scanner.

Working solution for lots Canon printers and multifunctions (scanners) is described here: http://ubuntuportal.com/how-to-install-canon-printer-driver-for-linux-ubuntu/
All Canon printer drivers also will be included into official Baltix GNU/Linux software repository - http://ftp.akl.lt/Linux/Baltix/Baltix-Ubuntu-packages/

Can you help with this problem?
