how to install canon multifunction MF4150 printer driver for ubuntu

Asked by frankzhu

I didn't find any linux driver for this printer under linux database. After installation of ubuntu 7.10 for my AMD64, it detects this printer as a general txt printer under USB, but it doesn't work properly.
Is there anyway to correctly install it?

Thanks a lot!

Read the following thread on the Ubuntu forums:

There are CUPs Linux drivers from their Asian site.

Great! This driver is MF4100 and it also works for my MF4150 printer. I
haven't tested the Fax yet.

Thanks a lot!

Just upgrade the MF4150 driver from ver 1.6 to ver 1.7
Steps for installation
1. download the driver from
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-MF4150
2. use synatic to check CUPS version if meet the system requirement
3. my system is amd64, but the driver is rpm format. so use alien to convert rpm to deb.
alien -d package-name.rpm to convert 64 bit driver to deb
4. double click deb to install it

Major changes noticed:
double sided function now works. 1.6 works but only flip on short-edge.
