Wireless printer appears to be install correctly but won't print

Asked by Tony Osmond

I have install into Ubuntu 12.10 a Brother MFC-J265W wireless printer using the recommended drivers from the brother site, the installation seemed to have gone ok, the printer shows up in the 'printers' section under 'settings', I can find the printer on line via the Cups 1.6.1 site but keep getting the 'Processing - "Waiting for printer to become available." message when I try to print...

The printer is working perfectly using windows and my internet connection is also working fine,

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated..

Printing over LAN doesn't need an Internet connection to function. The traffic is all local and never gets routed outside

Is there a user name and password needed to print
Can you ping the printer's IP address?
What is the output of :

lsb_release -a; uname -a; dpkg -l | egrep cups

Thanks

If you print a test page from windows, it should give the IP

Andrew, did you ever find the solution? I'm in the same boat with a Brother MFC-J430W. I installed both from command line and from GDebi installer. I also edited /etc/ printcap, as instructed by Brother because it was written for a USB connection (this printer in networked). The system can see the printer because it tells me that the black ink level is low, but when I try to print a test page, nothing happens.

Can you help with this problem?
