I need a printer driver for a Canon ImageClass D530.

Asked by Tom Steidel

When my HP Photosmart finally gave up the ghost, I bought a Canon ImageClass D530. However, I'm having trouble finding a suitable driver for this monochrome laser 3-in-1 printer/copier/scanner. I'm running 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx right now, with the most recent update. The Canon U.S.A website offers no Linux help at all. Can anyone help, please? Otherwise, this impressive printer is going back to the store! Thanks!

Did you check the Canon Europe website?

Hi Andrew,
Yes, I did, and they offer nothing other than Microsoft and Apple OS support. I read somewhere last night that Canon uses proprietary algorithms in their drivers to improve image quality. This creates compatibility problems with standard or generic printer drivers, I would think. I'm prepared to take this printer back, and get one that supports Linux. Any suggestions?

There is a link on this web page to contact Canon you could always ask them which driver they recommend.

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/black_white_laser_multifunction/imageclass_d530#DriversAndSoftware

If they can't help take a look at the link below before you go back to the shop.

Guys, thanks for the valiant efforts. I faithfully followed your suggestions, but none led me to the ultimate solution. I've returned the Canon printer after finding out from them that the ImageClass series use proprietary print drivers to improve image quality, and are NOT supported in Linux; only Microsoft and Apple OS's.

I'll close this one out with my heartfelt thanks. I just bought a Samsung laser multifunction printer/scanner/copier, and I'm in the process of installing it.

As a followup for anyone that comes here looking for help with the D530: I WAS indeed able to use the drivers found at the link provided by michael with success on 12.10.
