Canon Printer MX870 doesn't print after upgrade from Ubuntu 11.01 to 12.04

Asked by maridap

I have a canon printer MX870 that won't print after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04 when you try to print the printer screen flashes like it's going to start printing but it never does. In the printer menu it shows as if the job printed normally when in fact it didn't. I appears from some of the entry's that this is a common problem after the upgrade but there doesn't seem to be a clear solution for fixing it. Has anyone found a solution for the printer issue?

How did you install the driver?

I installed the driver by downloading it from the canon website and installing it thoruh the terminal (that was a about 2 years ago). The printer worked fine in 11.01 but not after upgrading to 12.04.

I got it working. I removed the printer drivers and re-booted the computer then re-installed the drivers, still didn't work.

I went into the CUPS config (http://127.0.0.1:631/) and added the printer through there and that got the printer working again.
