How to install the Canon Pixma mp 280 printer ?

Is there a way for a Windows printer to work with Ubuntu if the driver is not in the database?

My printer is a Canon Pixma mp 280

No, the Windows drivers will not work. There are Canon drivers available for LInux however, and Michael Gruz has a launchpad PPA with them all.

Do the following in a terminal window

#add the ppa to sources
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon

#update the software lists
sudo apt-get update

#Install the driver for the MP280
sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-mp280series

You will need to open printers and install the printer to use the driver.
