touble printing PDF files

I'm having trouble printing PDF files. Some will print but not all.

I recently installed all the available updates for my operating system and this made the problem worse.

Many files which printed before no longer print.

The printer's light will flash indicating it is about to print but then it will stop without printing the file. I've tried importing the files into other programs also using "Print to File" and saving them in Postscript format but they still wouldn't print.

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and using a Brother HL-5250DN printer.

I got no response from the forums. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you very much.

I just wanted to add that since I first posted, I connected my printer to a PC running Windows XP and the files printed there with no problem. But I want to be able to print them using Ubuntu.

Thanks for the reply. I have been printing from the evince Document Viewer program. I downloaded Okular and tried printing from it but experienced the same problem.

Yes. The odg and odt files from OpenOffice.org print OK. I can print from GIMP. The PDFs are where I notice the problem.

once pdf became opensource, there's a huge inconsistency in how it's implemented. where did you get the pdf files from that aren't working? or did you make them yourself with some program?

Thanks for replying. I've had problems with Internet and self-created files.

Some Internet files print and some won't but I've not been able to isolate the determining factor. It doesn't seem to matter which PDF version the file is.

I created a bunch of PDF files from Simple Scan which printed just fine until I installed updates to my system, now they won't print. I am able to create printable PDF files from OpenOffice.org but have experienced problems with files which included imported images.

Can you help with this problem?
