lexmark install appears not to execute
I installed the non-jre lexmark deb package from Lexmark.
The install completed without error.
I could not find a reference to run the application so I used application finder.
It brought up two identical Lexmark links.
Clicking on either causes the appearance that the application is going to execute but nothing happens.
I have a Lexmark S400 wireless I want to use.
I tried to install the deb package with jre and I can not. I get an error.
I tried to find a way to remove the first install but I did not find anything.
What do I need to do to make this work?
Thanks,
-David

I decided to start over and installed Ubuntu 11.10. During the installation it ask me my name and to create a password. I did. I used that password to install "Flash" from the Ubuntu Software Center with no problem. I downloaded the Lexmark Debian package for the Lexmark S405 and the installation starts up in GUI mode. When It asks for the password I used the only one I know but it does not like it and keeps re-prompting me for a password with administrative access. Is there a hidden password I should know?
Thanks,
-David

I had a similar problem with the password issue with Ubuntu 10.10. It
appears to me that if you use the software center package installs but not
if it downloaded from a third party.
Liking Ubuntu and really could use some help getting past this problem.
Thanks,
-David

This question was expired because it remained in the 'Open' state without activity for the last 15 days.

So does this mean there is no answer to my question? That would imply that nothing can be installed unless it is available via the software center and that would be very limiting, unless it is a limit to Ubunty!

I too have been requesting an answer to this problem. The immediate work around is to use my two windows apps.
But this sucks. This needs to be addressed. I saw a bug was reported to Redhat so this is a cups issue that must be addressed.

no lsb available message comes from the fact that Debian builds do not use lsb. For grins and giggles would it be wise to use the rpm version of the down driver load and unpack with alien. I doubt it would make a difference.

I have an s400 and I was able to install the software on Ubuntu 11.04.
There is a deb package available on the lexmark website. After extracting
the install script I was able to install it with sudo.
I am also able to scan with xsane that is from xsane.org.
Perseverance and sweet oil got it done.

I'm still unable to access my printer in Ubuntu. Was a work-around or
bug fix implemented for download?
Thank you
