Root administrator access needed to install lexmark driver

Asked by Steve McAbee

I have a wireless network printer, a Lexmark 720. I downloaded the linux driver but when I try to install I am prompted for a 'root access' password. Apparently this isn't my regular admin password. Is it possible to get one?

Well, either I'm dumber than a stump or..... anyway, I'm way past the sudo thing. I have put the file in the home directory, ran sudo tar zxvf, no luck. I tried using the install instruction provided by Lexmark for the 705 deb file, but in spite of numerous tries I get errors. I tried installing yakuake and logging on as a su (super user) but it doesn't like my password. I will just have to keep learning terminal usage syntax etc. and hope that one day it will suddenly become clear. Thanks for your help. This is Nostromo, signing off......

su will use the root password which doesn't exist. If you run:

sudo -i

You can then run:

cd /home/username

replace username with your user name and you will be good to go.

Can you help with this problem?
