Why are you making a canon driver? You should be able to find one on their asia or Europe site

Good lord, thats painful -- how the script writers think that would work, I don't know.

Anyway, you would need the -dev package for cups to obtain the header files, which for me is libcups2-dev.

But as marcus suggets, canon usually provides installable .deb files, which I would recommend you try to see if you can find on their website.

Hi
Many thanks for your help!!
I got the software from Canon-uk; I have checked and the same versions
are available from Canon-asia.
I have used this printer with both Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04. using the
Canon-uk software.
The mistake I made was to download Ubuntu 11.10. Oh Dear!!

How would I use libcups2-dev. ?

Hi
thanks for your help!
The files I am trying to use I got from Canon-UK site; I have looked at
the Canon-Asia site and the files are the same version; Scan gear 1.4
Prnt Drvr 3.2

I have used this printer with Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04, using the Canon-uk
software. from April until Oct of this year when I stupidly downloaded
Ubuntu 11.10. I am still recovering!!
Further advice would be appreciated.

Maybe, this can help you:
sudo apt-get insall libcups2-dev
