printing is slow with 11.04

Asked by Jacob

Installed 11.04 a while ago, when I hook it up to the printer, USB, it recognizes it without having to install any software
the problem is that it takes a long time to print stuff out (even word docs)

this isn't the printer, as I also have it hooked up to another computer w/ win 7 and it works fine, much faster printing

anything I can do?

with all applications? i have same printer and same problem, but only with libreoffice, eg. gedit or firefox prints ok, just libreoffice prints slow(i don't have other app which handles *.doc or *.odt files).

P.S. i'm using archlinux, so common things is only CUPS and HPLIP.

I haven't printed anything off Firefox yet, just PDFs /docs, so yes, just libreoffice, strange, isn't it?

it's annoying because if I want to print off more than, say, 3 pages or so I have to transfer to USB drive, then other computer, then print, otherwise it would take forever......

in my case it's definetely libreoffice(or atleast it's default settings) problem. i scanned document, opened with "gimp" and printed and it was printed in normal speed, not like libreoffice.

What is the name of the file you downloaded and where is it located?

Also run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get -y upgrade

Everything installed good, the software works, hooked up & printed....still.......slow......as......before......

well, it was worth a try!

Wondering if an upgrade to 11.10 would help?

I don't get any errors when printing---it will say "your printer may not be connected" when it is printing (obviously not the case), no errors in the status....

delete printer and setup again from scratch and choose "HP PSC 1400 Series, hpcups 3.11.10"(install "cups" if there is no such driver) NOT "hplips" driver and restart "cupsd", with CUPS driver everything works OK.
