Canon Pixma MP495 + ubuntu 10.04
Have been trying to get a Canon Pixma mp495 running (10.04) for days. Canon install booklet is a mess. Problems-
1. After getting wireless light to go solid blue (connected to router?) laptop did not recognize a printer until usb connected.
2. After running angryip- tried to change ssid but got '192.168.1.121 not replying' msg repeatedly, so left it at bjnpsetup.
3. Unable to load drivers.
Have printer working on the windows side (computer partitioned btween ubuntu and pc)
but, after reviewing and trying the several- confusing to me- (and apparently conflicting) install methods found on google, no joy.
When trying to add printer from the sys-admin-printer, mp495 is recognized (w/USB), but no drivers are on board, and although one msg said driver was available to download it wouldn't, then today a 'search for driver' failed ('no driver found'). And,
I can't open extracted drivers (cnijfilter-
Also tried to install drivers w/ the included 'install.sh' in the driver packages, both w/ the 'Run' and 'Run in Terminal' options- screen flashes then nothing. Are the drivers installed but not working? Or hidden? Sys/admin/print says no driver.
Any help would be much appreciated, but please make it step-by-step, as I don't understand what terms like yyy and code mean,
and have only slight ability using the Terminal.
Many, many thanks.
Many thanks
