how do i install a printer: install cd did not auto run

Trying to install a printer with the install cd and it did not auto run. How do I install the printer?

Please do not use any Windows cd to install printers you are in Ubuntu here...

Please tell the printer brand and model then also please tell the release of Ubuntu you are using...

You will need to locate Linux drivers for it. Some printers can not be made to work at all as Linux drivers do not exist. Most of the more common printers however do have drivers available.

Try Google-ing Linux printer driver or Ubuntu printer driver with the make and model of your printer.

If that does not take you to the answer then come back here. WE will need to know the following:

1. What version of ubuntu you are running

2. What desktop you are using Gnone, Unity, KDE etc

3. The make and model of your printer

And will try to help from there

what's the brand of printer you have. if it's HP, you can just plug it in and turn it on.
if it's a Canon, you have to google "canon asia" or "canon europe" to locate a driver for it.
if it's a Brother, just google "brother printer linux driver" and you'll get a link to the drivers.
if it's an Epson, you can do the same, but Epson drivers are made by a company called Avasys, so you'd be taken to that site.

as, mentioned by the other two people, you need to tell us the make and model of your printer.
