How to install Canon Pixma MP470 I have windows driver/set up disc.

Asked by Alec Bampton

Can I install MP470 using driver disc or is there another way, whilst trying to install currently there is no MP470 in the list, and trying a PPD using the set up disc I seem to end with a blank screen and unable to forward. Is there a place to find driver for this printer?, if I search for driver it says one is available but will not carry out process as the driver is not from my os?

The Canon driver disk will only contain Windows drivers.

Canon have not made a Debian Linux printer driver for the MP470. The only thing I can suggest is to try the MP490 printer driver (or others) and Michael Gruz has put together a PPA for Canon printer drivers here on Launchpad which makes it very easy to install and try them.
https://launchpad.net/~michael-gruz/+archive/canon

There are clear instructions on how to use the PPA and install drivers here:

The Canon printer drivers for Linux are getting better, but there's still plenty of holes. Good Luck! (Personally I shall probably consider Epson for my next printer purchase)
