Howto setup Kodak 5300 printer

Asked by Brian Bullock

I have a Kodak 5300 printer connected. I have followed the instruction to make this printer the default printer. The system identifies the printer but when I send a test page or a document to the printer the job is queued showing pending, then processing and finally completion, but nothing arrives at the printer. what have I missed?

First, point your browser to the following:
http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/

When the CUPS page comes up, click on your printer which should show up with a name indicating Kodak 5300 and that it is paused. You may need to put in your username and password to continue as you are doing a task at the administrator level.

On the page that next shows, click on the Maintenance pull-down menu and select "Resume Printer" if it shows up as paused. Then try printing a document.

For further help, there is a tab in the top bar for "Online Help" which you might find useful.

Hope this helps.

David,
I am not seeing what you are suggesting. My printer is identified as Kodak 5300 conected to USB. I have not seen a screen asking for user name and password. I have also not seen a Maintenance drop dowm menu.
If I select to print a test document or a docunet they appear in the printer queue but nothing appears at the printer.
On one screen I saw CUPS server error /document format not supported.

Kodak hate Linux. I doubt you will get this working.

Brian: Have one more try at pointing the browser--this time to just http://127.0.0.1:631 ,

On that page click the 'Administration' tab and then click 'Manage Printers.' Your printer should show up there in the listing. Here are your options:

A. If it does, click it open and choose 'Maintenance' and then 'Resume Printer.'

B. If the printer doesn't show up after clicking on the 'Administration' tab, you'll need to 'Add Printer' and go through the steps to include your printer in the listings. Failing that...

C. As Andrew indicated and which I forgot is that Kodak aims their printer drivers for Windows and Mac and are very poor at cooperating with the Linux community on printer drivers. At the Kodak.com website after searching for your printer, there wasn't Linux support indicated on the page for the 5300. You might be better off with another brand of printer. (The HP printers are usually well supported by the CUPS packages used by Ubuntu.)

Can you help with this problem?
