Canon printers: installing drivers for a Canon Pixma 280

Asked by Jim Steen

I'm very new to this system and will probably have to be show step-by-step how do this. I went to the Canon website and down-
loaded the drivers but I don't know how to install them. They are cnijfilter--common_3.40_i386.deb and cnijfilter-mp280series.deb
any help would be greatly appreciated, THANK YOU. Oh by the way I'm using Ubuntus' 11.04 (Natty Narwale)

when you click on the deb files, you should be prompted to install them. YOu need to install the cnijfilter--common deb first, and the cnijfilter-mp second.

If this fails (I recall the cnijfilter packages being incorrectly written) move both files to your home folder /home/jim, or whatever, then try opening a terminal (search for terminal in launcher, or press Ctrl+Alt+T) and running this:

sudo dpkg -i cnij*deb

if that does not work, post the output from this command back here.

Please add this ppa https://launchpad.net/~michael-gruz/+archive/canon to your repository, from terminal type:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-common-2.80

Hope this helps
