Can't find a driver for Canon MF4410 printer.

Asked by Dave Allen

1. I have had the printer working with Vista in a dual boot system with Ubuntu 10.04.
2. I threw out Vista since the printer (but not the scanner) is supposed to have a linux driver, Where is it?
3 I have downloaded a driver, file o1113enx_l_ufr221d.zip, but I can't find it in my file system! What is the process for installing the Linux driver?

The file will more than likely be in /home/$USER/Downloads. Extract the file and there are debs for both 64bit and 32bit Ubuntu. You can install the files by double clicking them, one will need installing first but you will know if you hit the wrong one as you will get an error message). You can alternatively install them in terminal with:

sudo dpkg -i file

canon's linux scanner driver doesn't work. you can use simple scan, which is already installed in ubuntu, or you can get xsane from the software center. xsane offers more functionality than simple scan.

actionparsnip like using the terminal. if you're using the gnome desktop or unity, you can click on places and go to the downloads directory. all files automatically download there unless you specified another location when you saved it.
