Brother printer will not work on Ubuntu 9.04

Brother printer will not work on Ubuntu 9.04. I have downloaded the files from Brother and followed their install instructions but that is not doing anything. I had this trouble last time as well as I have had to re-install 9.04 and I can not remember the command line that I used. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Jaunty is no longer supported in any way. Please upgrade to at least Lucid

Hi,

Which one is Lucid? I cannot use 9.10 on my computer as it freezes straight away and 10.04 and 11.04 freeze after a while. I have downloaded 10.10 but haven't tried it yet but can I upgrade from 9.04 to that straight away? thanks.

Lucid is 10.04

11.04 is out. Have you tried that? Have you tested your RAM?

Yes I have 10.04 installed and installed 11.04 again last night. How do I test Ram? I know there is 2GB when purchased. I installed 9.10 a while ago and every time it would install successfully but when I tried to do anything like change the mouse from right to left or the Internet it would freeze. I made inquiries from the person who I got the disk from so he did some asking around, probably here, and came back with to me with information that my computer, Intel Atom 330 Dual Core 945GC had problems with 9.10, only at that point of time, as it was designed for Windows 7 which is also on the hard-drive. I did download my own version and tried it as well probably all up 8 times installed 8 times froze. I had no trouble with 7-04 through to 8.10 then Fedora then trying 9.10 and settled for 9.04 which was good until I stuffed it up.

With the 11.04 I can access the corrupted 9.04/11.04 where can I find the emails on that system as money wise there is a lot of very important information there? Also my printer is not working on 11.04 either. i t sends the info and says job completed but nothing prints out. Thank you for your assistance.
