trouble setting up epson printer to scan

Asked by tim speers

I recently got a laptop with ubuntu lucid lynx. I am currently trying to install the software for my epson cx9400fax and am having trouble getting it to work. when I put in the disk it ran and seemed to install files but I cant figure out how to scan. It doesn't have the same icon and set up that it did on my windows os. I should also say that I am out of ink and the printer itself wont get past that on it's screen. I know that I need to get ink in it and try again but I also know when that's done I'll still have trouble finding out how to scan, so any info is helpful. Thank you very much.

Check you software and see if you have a scanner application. Cups only provides the "backend" for this function go to "applications>Graphics and see if xsane, scanlite or simple scan are installed. One of those should work, download from ubuntu software center. Xsane is the most versitile, also most complicated. simple scan works well for most scanners; if simple doesn't work scanlite should. They are almost identical; written for different hardware. Aslo check synaptic package mamger and be sure you have libgutenprint installed

Can you help with this problem?
