printer won't print anything

Asked by William A Brown

I'm new to ubuntu. 10.10 I just bought an HP deskjet 1000 printer and even though it found and installed the drivers and says "printer online" and has a green check mark on the printer icon, it won't print anything. not even a test page! any help would be much appreciated. thanks.

Bill

my computer says it already has the hplip package but it still will not print anything. when I try to print, the printer on light gets brighter like it's waking up but nothing else happens.

I seem to have the same problem. Also new to Ubuntu (10.10). The print queue shows the job briefly, but no output from the printer. The sourceforge website will let you download a "runfile", but running it is a challenge "hplip-3.10.9.run". Before installing 10.10 i ran tests from the CD, and printing was no problem with the same HP Deskjet D1660. An upgrade must have caused this problem, but being new to linux I don't really have too much helpful to add.

Can you help with this problem?
