CUPS Server error

Asked by Jo Hawkins

New user so please answer in "idiot" fashion if you are kind enough to answer. I have purchased Linux for Dummies but unfortunately don't appear to be bright enough to use it properly!

Have installed 10.04LTS Lucid Lynx Ubuntu on to a computer my children can no longer use with windows, as one of them has a linux notepad that has been fabulous.

REALLY pleased.

Trying to install a wireless printer - purchased one that it appeared should work from google responses - Epson Stylus SX425W.

The computer can see the printer, and I've downloaded and installed the driver
epson-inkjet-printer-nx420_1.0.0_1lsb3.2_i386.deb from AVASYS.

When I try to add the printer I get the following message and have no idea how to move forward.
CUPS SERVER ERROR
There was an error during the CUPS operation:
"server-error-internal-error"

Is it something to do with picking the wrong type of architecture in the driver? How do I find out what my architecture is?

PC is Packard BellI I Media 5054 Cel 2

Any help gratefully received - thank you for reading this

Jo

Your computer will let you manage printers using the CUPS utilities. First point your browser to http://localhost:631/

Once there you may have to log in to make changes. (Your computer's login with screen name and password should work.)

The 'Home' tab gives support on how to use CUPS. I usually start with the 'Administration' tab and then choose 'Manage Printers.'
Look at boxes checked on any page to make sure they're what they should be.

Next click on the printer you want to manage. From there you'll see choices to do lots of things in the 'Maintenance' and 'Administration' selections. I usually head over to 'Maintenance' and use the pull-down arrow to find things like Reject Jobs or Resume. A bit of experimentation may be necessary to clear up your problems. At least you'll eventually discover what the issues are.

That should get you on your way to resolving things. Best of luck.

Can you help with this problem?
