HP LaserPRo 1566 won't print anything - pdftoraster failed

Binary package hint: cups

Printer: HP LaserPro 1566
Connection: USB

Problem: Nothing is printed, not even the test page.
Error message: /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftoraster failed

Ubuntu version: 10.04 LTS
Gnome: 2.30.2

First sorry for my English...
I am a beginner in using Linux. I'm trying to install my printer for a long time and nothing work. I can't print a test page. This message comes: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftoraster failed"

I tried so many things before, like to reinstall hplip, hpijs, foo2,... I created a root passorwd to administre with Cups, when I try to print with Cups the error message appears.

I don't know how to do! And I'd like to paste here the total message of the problem but I don't know where I have to look to find it.

The Epson Stylus TX420W requires a proprietary printer driver from the manufacturer which can not be included in Ubuntu.
Problems with the proprietary driver should be reported to the manufacturer and not to Ubuntu.
Converting to a support request in case anybody can help you.

Your cups error_log is showing a missing file:
D [27/Oct/2010:20:35:26 -0200] [Job 18] /usr/lib/cups/filter/pipslite-filter: error while loading shared libraries: libltdl.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Probably you need to install the libltdl-dev package and perhaps provide a symlink.

According to linuxprinting.org http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Epson/Epson-TX420W_Series, you should use the epson-nx420 driver for this printer. Please try.

I tried using the epson-nx420 driver before, but it gave me a different error message (/opt/epson-inkjet-printer-nx420/cups/lib/filter/epson-inkjet-printer-filter failed).
I'm going to try installing libltdl-dev package and see what happens.

Installed libltdl-dev package, created the symlink
/usr/lib/libltdl.so.3 --> /usr/lib/libltdl.so (which points to libltdl.so.7.2.1)

Didn't work, same error message you described. Then I switched back to the nx420 driver and, after some time just making noises, it finally printed the test page flawlessly.

It seems that I was lacking that symlink for everything to work. Thanks!

I can't print opening the pdf document with Document Viewer 2.32.0 (evince) but I can print opening the document with Adobe Acrobat Reader (acroread).
