trying to access HP Officejet Pro L7500 from Ubuntu computer on ethernet home network

Asked by Jim Crooks

I have successfully installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 on my computer, which is connected to a ethernet Home network. I have a network Printer HP Officejet Pro L7500 Series, works fine with my other two computers, which are both running Windows 7. I thought I followed proper procedure but the printer is not recognized by Ubuntu. I get a failure to connect time out message. I really don't understand the setup terminology. If you could give me a step by step procedure, including all of the appropriate URI, smba values or how to identify them I would sure appreciate it.

In the printer properties box it shows DESCRIPTION: HP Officejet Pro L7500 LOCATION: Office
DEVICE URI: smb://%5BHOME/%5DHP05E841%5B/HP%20Officejet%20Pro%20L7500%20Series
MAKE and MODEL: HP Officejet Pro l7500 hpijs, 3.10...
PRINTER STATE: idle - Unable to connect to CIFS Host after (t...

I have tried several combinations of the above info, all to no avail.

Thanks, Jim Crooks

Ok then use the printer dialogue and specify it as a network printer, type in the IP and click probe.
