Brother MFC-260C where does ubuntu look for printer drivers when installing?

Asked by Richard Bull

When doing an install my printer wasn't listed and generic didn't work.
I downloaded 4 for my printer (Brother MFC-260C) from the web but ubuntu doesn't seem to find them.
Need to know where it looks so I can put them in the right place.

Yuo just install them by double clicking. Install the driver then the wrapper and it will work.

Simply double-clicking didn't completely set up the printer - it was installed but still didn't work!!

I found the answer at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=590793
which required manual installation using the command line/terminal.

Everything now works.
Don't know what the difference is, but obviously something hadn't been set up properly by the simple double-click process!
