unable to install hp printers

i have an hp deskjet 5550 color printer, and a newer all-in-one photosmart hp c4480 printer. i am unable to find any drivers for them in ubuntu linux. hp has none that will worl. i am new to linnux and only understand the very basic operations. so i am at a loss to know what to do or where to go to find and software compatable with this system.

with HP printers, if you attached them to the puter and turn them on, ubuntu will automatically recognize them and install the required drivers for you.

thank you for the reply. this i have already tried on all 4 of my
desktops. the 2 newer IBM;s and my 2 older dell and hp desktops. none of
them have attempted to locate and install any drivers. with the
exception of my netvista. it tried and looked for drivers but the
message said unable to support printer, and no drivers found. so im
still wiyhout print cababilitys.

search on the internet for the file HPLIP.

i believe the most current version is hplip-3.10.6.run

when you download it onto your computer. you can double click it to install it. it will be in your Downloads directory.
