Canon Multifunctional Laserbase MF3220 driver?

Asked by Carlos Bruck

Hello,

I am new here and I want to install Ubuntu on my computer. (I am currently on Windows XP). Everything seems to be fine, exept for my printer.

Does anyone know how I can install the drivers for the Canon Laserbase MF 3220 Printer and Scanner in Linux? It seems that it is possible to install the drivers for printer and scanner seperately, but I have only found instructions for the Canon MP210 on Ubuntu 8.04

Glad if anyone can help me out with a hint!

Thanks, Carlos

Except HP, the printer and scanner drivers are independent.
Try firstly the simplest. Connect printer, System->Administration Printer, Add a new printer, Search a new printer, then check if printer is detected and if driver installation is done or started. Sometimes it is so easy.
Not in http://www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/Canon! The commercial spam in Google is very impressive. After "googling", it seems that some Canon printers are mot managed by Linux.
A "perverse" solution is to install Virtual Box (or VmWare), install Windows on this virtual machine, and after the printer itself, and then to use Samba between Ubuntu and Windows. Not a direct solution but it works. If you decide to buy a new printer, I advise you Hewlett Packard one, which are supported by HP itself.

Give Canon Asia's site a try. They have Linux drivers for a lot of their products.
