Here you are. I m new to ubuntu but all works fine exept for this
printer. So i would be happy if you coult help. The driver i downloaded
from dell starts a install program but then i m asked to give my root
pasword. But when i enter this the program stops indicated this pasword
is wrong. Strange.

Run th app with:

gksudo

There is no root password in Ubuntu, use gksudo and it will run as if like root.

I click on "dell-inkjet-09-driver-1.0-1.i386.deb.sh" which is on my
desktop. and then a dell program starts until i m asked to give
root/administrative password.

I seem not to be able to indicate this matter as solved. (not allowed). The driver was available on the Dell webside.

I downloaded the driver, unzipped it, and clicked on my desktop and got this message:

"Lua error detected: While parsing install.lua: config/run.lua:1358: attempt to index global 'ownhership' (a nil value)"

What now? I am using Kubuntu 11.10 but should that matter?

"Lua error detected: While parsing install.lua: config/run.lua:1358: attempt to index global 'ownhership' (a nil value)"

I had the same error. This is just a typo in the install script: "ownhership" instead of "ownership". You can find a description how to fix this here: http://dylanmtaylor.com/2011/04/17/fixing-lexmark-printer-driver-installation-in-ubuntu-11-04/ (written for a lexmark printer but it's the same for dell)

But even after installing the printer it does not work for me. I can print a test page by pressing a button on the printer itself, but whenever I print a file from the computer, the status of the job turns to "stopped" without having printed anything. Any ideas?
