Samsung ML-2510 printer no longer works after upgrade to Lucid Lynx

Asked by Amapele

Upgraded from Hardy Heron. Got the following messages when a file was printed:

Stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter.
There is a missing printer filter for 'ML-2510_Series'.
rastertospl2 program required.

This program is supposed to be part of the Splix package and /usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertospl2 is the expected location. Other launchpad entries indicated reinstalling the printer might help. I tried that but could not find the driver. The printer worked fine under Hardy. I have a trace if that would help.

rastertospl2 is still missing. I am concerned that even if it were available, I would still not have the needed driver.

Even though this printer is only a couple of years old, the CD containing its drivers would not install. I went to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_ia_cd=06010400&prd_mdl_cd=&prd_mdl_name=ML-2510 and clicked on Driver under the Downloads tab. Then I clicked on the Unified Driver link for Linux and followed those instructions after downloading and unzipping the corresponding file. The printer is now working. Considering the number of Samsung printers that are natively supported by Lucid, I still think this was a Lucid packaging oversight.
