PC gets blocked trying to print

Asked by Pietro Palopoli

I installed a samsung ML2010P. Ubuntu seems to recognize it, on parallel:/dev/lp0, with its driver SPLIX V2.0.0, the printer is in ready state, published on the localhost server. Error policy is the default. CUPS server is activated and connected (/var/run/cups/cups.sock). My userid is added to CUPS group and to SHADOW group.

However, when I try to print the test page or whatever file from whatever application (pdf, openoffice, ...) the result is always the same:
1) system sends a message that print starts, everything seems ok so far, ... but
2) before the printer starts, the cursor halts, the keybord and the mouse do not respond any more and the computer goes blocked
3) I have to manually power off it!

I am novice to Ubuntu and Linux too, and I could have missed something, but a system should not get stuck in such a way all the times a file is sent for printing to a printer!

Many thanks in advance for answers.

Looks more as a kernel issue linked to parallel port.
You should report a bug against kernel.
Before type command:
    uname -a
to have exact reference of kernel.

If at boot you have choice between many kernel release, try another kernel release.

Thanks, Delance.
I've no alternate kernel release proposed at startup, except the debug version of this:

2.6.32-22-generic-pae #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 14:57:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I got it after uname. I'm going to report a bug.

Can you help with this problem?
