Printer Canon iP90 - Lucid Lynx 10.04

Asked by jcglt

My printer Canon PIXMA iP90 worked well on Karmic Koala 09.10 after I had installed the following drivers :
cnijfilter-common-2.70-1.i386 and
cnijfilter-ip90-2.70-1.i386.rpm
It does not anymore work since I upgrades my laptop to Lucid Lynx 10.04. The printer is recognized but does not print anything, normal files or test files and the "printing queue" is said to be empty.
Any idea ?

Does it work when you delete the printer and add it again?

Are the any error messages?

Thank you for your answer. I deleted it and added it again without result.
I can mail if needed the troubleshoot.txt file recording this problem, a rather large file of 60.5 kio, which I tried to copy/paste here but it cannot be sent.

Everytime I try to paste the content of this troubleshoot.txt file I get the following message :

Timeout error
Sorry, something just went wrong in Launchpad.

We’ve recorded what happened, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Trying again in a couple of minutes might work.

(Error ID: OOPS-1597H1011)

You need debs, not rpms. Ubuntu uses debs.

I went to the canon site and found this:
http://files.canon-europe.com/files/soft27214/software/27214.tgz

You may have to extract the RPM in order to get the .PPD file which you can use to setup the printer with.

Thanks, I will work with this 27214.tgz but I knew about the .rpm and .deb files and on my Karmic Koala system I had used "alien" to convert rpm in deb before using them and it worked well.
About this 27214 I extracted it, do you think I should copy all extracted files in the relevant directories of my Lucid Lynx system ?

If you extract the rpm you will probably find a PPD file, you can use this in the printer installation method as it is an option. This link kinda shows the method:

Well, I just checked this extracted rpm file to my file system, which I
got from the alien converted rpm files in deb on the 22nd of February
this year, they are all indentical and are all installed in my computer,
even this canonip90.ppd file.
I tried a new page test print from "system" "administration" "printing"
"canon-ip90" "printer" "proprieties" where this printer is shown as
"inactive", I also looked at the "printing queue list" which is empty.

I just typed the command "hwinfo" and noticed these few lines, if it can help :

I tried again today.
I uninstalled all printers from my laptop then plugged the Canon iP90, it was recognized then in a short time considered as installed.
I then tried again to print a "test page" with no luck.
I then tried to print an "Autotest page" and got the following message :
ERROR CUPS server
An error happened during the CUPS execution : "client-error-document-format-not-supported"

I solved my problem by downloading "TurboPrint2.15 (30-APR-2010), which works nicely on my system. I still does not understand what failed with the Canon drivers and /usr/share/cups/model/canonip90.ppd which does not accept to load when I try to install it from the menu System Administration Printing.
