1. Right-click anywhere on your top panel.
2. Choose 'Add to panel'.
3. Click on 'Application Launcher', then 'Forward'.
4. Crafty will probably be listed under Games. If it isn't, click 'Back'.
5. Select 'Custom application launcher'.
6. Enter command as crafty.
7. Enter name, etc.

Hi Ankur

Thanks for your answer.

Crafty is not listed. So I used 'Custom application launcher'. I created a launcher for crafty but the launcher doesn't work. What did I wrong? Thanks.

Come to think of it, you anyway won't be able to launch Crafty separately. Crafty is just the chess engine - you still need a graphical interface to play it with. So, install either one of these two packages - gnome-chess or eboard - which interface with Crafty and provide a GUI for you to play chess in. After installing either of the two packages, you can add them to the panel using the procedure I mentioned earlier for 'Application Launcher'; they should be listed under Games category. (No need to go to Custom Application Launcher - they _should_ show up in the pre-defined list.)

Yep, you're right. I installed xboard and gnuxchess. And now it works. Thanks a lot!
