i did, but it is supposed to kick in by its self when needed, you cant just turn it on and its not always there, is there a stress test app for ubuntu that you know of?

You can run apps like normal in the LiveCD it just uses a RAM disk instead of a regular drive storage. You could install and use cpuburn if you wish.
