Details, please!

What Ubuntu release are you running?

What exactly are you doing, what do you expect to happen and what happens instead?

Linux mint 20.3 cinnamon
uname -a gave the following

Linux k3 5.4.0-149-generic #166-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 18 16:51:45 UTC 2023
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ ls *.pdf|wc -l
82

Sometimes the ls *.pdf gives error at random. It simply stops working and
then starts working after some time. In short it is unreliable

i will try to replicate the error thru a screenshot when it happens next
time as it is not happening now. The status of this question could be kept
pending till such time.

Manfred Hampl suggests this article as an answer to your question:

None of the Ubuntu based distributions are supported by the Ubuntu community. The mint community is separate from the Ubuntu community.
I suggest you post on the mint forum here
https://forums.linuxmint.com/

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask networker for more information if necessary.
