Extra consolekit sessions causing problems

Asked by gil

Sometimes I find that I have extra consolekit sessions where only one should exist. In other words running ck-list-sessions will list several sessions as existing for the same user even though they are only logged in once.

Once in this state, activities such as mounting a removable USB device stop working problem.

Usually logging out and logging in resolves the problem.

Any suggestion where these extra consolekit sessions are coming from?

This happens on several machines running hardy.

Answering my own question.

The problem arises if you are using gdm and have the pam-ck-connector invoked in gdm's pam configuration - in particular if you include pam-ck-connector in @common-session.

The solution is simply to make sure that pam-ck-connector is *not* invoked by gdm sessions (or other login managers that are consolekit aware in the own right).

I have the same problem without any entry about pam-ck-connector
