Asked by raver9angelo

Totally reinstalled Ubuntu 9.10 from a clean formatted drive On GeForce 6100 compiz will not work tried about everything.

on compiz --replace I get:

Checking for Xgl: not present.
xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Detected PCI ID for VGA:
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: present.
Checking for non power of two support: present.
Checking for Composite extension: present.
Checking screen 1Comparing resolution (1024x768) to maximum 3D texture size (4096): Passed.
Checking for Software Rasterizer: Not present.
Checking for nVidia: present.
Checking for FBConfig: present.
running under gnome seesion, checking for gnomecompat
Checking for Xgl: not present.
/usr/bin/compiz.real (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format
/usr/bin/compiz.real (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: /usr/share/gdm/themes/Human/ubuntu.png
GConf backend: There is an unsupported value at path /apps/compiz/plugins/cube/screen0/options/images. Settings from this path won't be read. Try to remove that value so that operation can continue properly.

Its got to be something silly! Any help anyone??!!

press alt+f2
type: compiz --replace
press enter

The output you gave looks fine and it should work. The command has 2 dashes which is why you get "-replace is not an option"

try:

sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-artwork

You can also just download a png file and put it in the right place with the right name.
