Desktop freezing in ubuntu 9.10 and compiz

Asked by munir

I am using using ubuntu 9.10
I PC has motherboard : 945 GC-X
                       RAM : 1 GB
graphics card : 128 MB (intel)

The desktop freezes if i click the mouse.
Mouse and keyboard also freezes. I have to press
the restart button to restart the PC. But again it freezes.
Kubuntu 9.10 runs fine.

Later i logged in ubuntu in failsafe mode and uninstalled
everything related with compiz. Then everything is fine.

But this can't be the solution. A first time user cannot deal with such thing.
Is there any problem with hardware or the BIOS or it is a BUGG !!!

I need an good explanation. Can anybody help?

DON'T PRESS RESET. You WILL damage your hardware!

Linux is a modular OS, Meaning the display can be attempted to be restarted using ALT+K+PrintScreen together

Can you give the output of:

sudo lshw -C display

Thanks

Its Part B in the guide. The guide says to add 2 lines to your sources.lst file, it says jaunty which you arent using, you need to change the word jaunty to karmic.

Can you help with this problem?
