Cannot login after activate compiz desktop effects after upgrade to 9.10 RC

Asked by Lolwhites

Just upgraded to Karmic RC. It worked at first, then I enabled Compiz. Now the system completely hangs on login, including when I log in as a different user, and the only way to restart is REISUB. The only way to get it to work is to log in with Failsafe Gnome.

Have also tried to use a Karmic live USB and the same thing happens.

I use an Intel chipset 945GCT-M2 with no graphics card, and the reason I upgraded was to try and solve the Intel graphics problems in Jaunty.

Purging Compiz makes it possible to log in, but no fancy effects of course.

Try renaming ~/.compiz in failsafe gnome and reboot. Is your system fully updated?

The system is fully updates, but compiz still causes the system to hang.I've removed ~/.compiz and installed again in the hope that an update will have sorted the problem out, but it still hangs if compiz is running.
