Totem Movie Player & VLC does not work

Upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04 using upgrade tool.
Attempting to play any video file both Movie Player or VLC media player cause program to terminate abruptly.

Distribution: Ubuntu 9.04
 Desktop environment: GNOME
 Graphics chip: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
 Driver in use: intel
 Rendering method: AIGLX

Terminal window type command: gstreamer-properties

and then changing the Video output from "Auto" to "...(no Xv)" stopped movie players from shutting down.
