compiz has always worked fine for me in the passed, but since the new release i cant get it to work. do you think there is another window manager that is installed on 9.04 that is in conflict

Ok, try this, go up to the top taskbar and click on

Applications - Accessories - Terminal

and enter this ...

sudo apt-get envyng-gtk

it will ask for your normal password, not your SuperUser/Root one and may ask for a few dependencies which you'll also need so just acceptt them. Once installed then type

envyng -t

Note the space there. This should give a text based 'almost gui'. Uninstall your current driver for your graphics card. Then reboot the machine and use the 'almost gui' to install the latest driver for your card. Reboot again. Normally you don't need to reboot linux much but for this you do, i haven't worked out why but it seems quite fine. Hopefully compiz will now work, assuming you have ccsm or whatever too ;)

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Compiz is a window manager. So a window manager cannot conflict with it. Thats why it is started with

compiz --replace

Did you install video drivers to get 3D accelleration? Compiz needs this.

If you haven't, if you can provide the output of

lspci | grep -i vga

I can advise from there

(Personally I think compiz is NOT worth the hassle and it breaks apps in some cases)

As said before the output of
lspci | grep -i vga

and your x.conf file would help in the diagnosis of your problem

Can you help with this problem?
