Why was the "Custom" option removed from the Visual Effects panel?

Asked by joelholdsworth

The Appearance Preferences > Visual Effects panel has 3 options: None, Normal and Extra. Back in the Gutsy days, if you installed compizconfig-settings-manager a fourth radio button was added with the name Custom, which linked to the the compiz config panel. Now I know that you can get the compiz panel through the Preferences menu, but I was wondering why this integration was removed. It worked really well - especially when enabling and disabling effects for game play. I'd really like to see it come back in jaunty!

As mentioned in the linked bug report you could try to install simple-ccsm.
