Is Ubuntu 8.04 the OS with a cubed desktop option?

Asked by dejectory

I just downloaded Ubuntu 8.04, after being led to assume that it was the Linux Operating System that could display 4-6 desktops on a cube that would zoom out of a single desktop, turn, and zoom into another. Is this true? And if so, how do you activate that function? If not, which is?

FYI to those looking at this, you can get these sorts of effects by going to System -> Preferences -> Appearance and checking Extra on the Visual Effects tab. To get the Desktop Cube, go to Applications -> Add/Remove Programs, select All Available Applications in the dropdown, and search for ccsm, which should find Advanced Desktop Effects Settings. Install that, access it through System -> Preferences -> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings, and check Desktop Cube. You should probably make sure you have set your desktops to 1x4 by right-clicking the desktops in the lower right corner and clicking Preferences, then set it to 4 columns, 1 row. You can then see the cube by holding down Ctrl and Alt and dragging your desktop.
