Kubuntu with compiz:1.0.7.6?

Asked by mcneely.brandon

I Have just installed Kubuntu (8.04) and then installed compiz:1.0.7.6. I canget compiz to run even though it says xgl is not present. I can't get the cube to work. I can only get 2 desktops to show. In the compiz settings manager I go to generel/desktop size, and it will not let me change from 1 desktop. Can Anyone help me solve this problem???

Thanks from a noob!
Brandon

What card are you using? Are other compiz effects working? Try to enable some effects from System -> Desktop Effects

some of them do; like expo, but cube and deformation do not work. If I go to desktop effects it just asks to enable effects (none, normal, enhanced, custom. there is no preference tab next to custom or any others. I installed the compiz manager and tried to enable different setting that way but again only few work. I have the nvidia geforce 6100 card. It works on ubuntu 8.04, but when I reboot it will have to be started manually. I really like Kubuntu a little better, if I can just get the bugs worked out!

Thanks,
 Brandon (noob on a mission)

No, I accidently hit the problem solved tab, as my 3 year old was pulling on my arm to get her a fruit snack. This is why I re-entered the question because it was closed by accident!

Thank You,

It is true that compiz is not so stable on kde :(

What I did, I used the "Extra Effects" from Desktop Effects and then I used the Advanced Desktop Effect Settings to tweak it to my needs. Try it and see what happens :)
