GPU's that run compiz fusion decent

Asked by SnoopaLuke

I'm in the market for a new laptop. Pretty much a cheapo though, spending between 500 and 700 dollars. The most important thing though is that it runs compiz fusion effects decently or well. Does anyone know a bare minimin of what compiz fusion requires. I'm looking at a laptop with a geforce 7000m. Is that good enough? Any recommendations?
All the other specs are pretty good, duel core, 1.9 ghz, 2 gig ram, 1mb L2 cache.

Hello

Here is a list which lists the video card support under xgl which is required to run compiz in linux

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Video_Card_Support_Under_XGL

Generally Intel built in cards are supported well and my specs are dual core 3ghz 1 gig ram and inbuilt 950 GMA graphics and compiz runs ultra smooth

Thanks, but I read the Intel GMA X3100 was not well supported at all for use with compiz fusion. Sorry I don't totally understand all that xgla stuff, hopefully I will soon. Basically my choices are the 7000m, the gma x3100 and the radeon x1200. I've only looked at new egg's laptops and have not gone to the vendors themselves so maybe there are more choices after all. But I honestly don't care what brand. Any who these three cards are the only ones they have in my price range, can you help me from there anyone? None of these cards are on that website you linked to me.

The best thing if you are looking for a new laptop go in for the system 76 ones as they come with ubuntu preinstalled and provide good support

http://system76.com/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=60

and it fits in your price range too

Thanks man, unfortunately I had not checked my email in a while and went and bought a laptop before i read your last response. It's not here yet but I'm crossing my fingers compiz fusion works. It was so cheap (cheaper then the 599 one on the 76 site, but with better hardware) so considering its specs I had to jump on it, but it has an ati radeon x1270 card which is my main concern. Thanks for the site link I'll use it in the future, or maybe return this one if i can.
