compiz package

Black border around every windows and menubar is missing for firefox and gnome-terminal.

After upgrading all the packages in ubuntu 14.04 using sudo apt-get upgrade a thick black border appears around all the windows.
Menu bar of genome terminal and firefox is missing. I cannot type anything in the terminal.

After googling I find that my problem is related to the bug reported in the page
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1292830.

System Configuration:
Toshiba Satelite C850, Intel HD Graphics,
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit.

If you log in as guest is it ok?

Thanks for your response.

In guest session also the same problem exists.

All the problems started after an upgrade of all the packages.
After the upgrade had finished the terminal displayed an error message "Oracle Java 8 cannot be installed".
I rebooted the system and the problem started.

Now all the windows have thick rectangular border of about one centimetre thick. This happens even for dropdown menus, right-click menus, notifications etc...As I try to enter some commands in the gnome terminal nothing show up. I have uninstalled the terminal and now using xgterm. Now, in ubuntu software center shows
"There isn’t a software package called “gnome-terminal” in your current software sources."

I am a bit troubled. It would be great if i get help to sort it out.

HI,
I have done a lots of search again and finally I found the following post..

I think this problem has occurred due to an improper kernel update during upgrade.
As mentioned in the above page, I have updated my kernel. Now black border has disappeared, I got back my terminal and Ubuntu is working like a charm.

This post may help someone else.
