You need to install the compizconfig-settings-manager package; that will add a new item will appear in System/Preferences.

You need to enable Desktop Cube and Rotate Cube. You will be asked if you want to disable Desktop Plane; answer "Disable Desktop Plane".

After you do that hold Ctrl-Alt and move your mouse to change your desktop. You can also use Ctrl-Alt-left and Ctrl-Alt-right to do that.

To move windows between faces, hold Ctrl-Alt-Shift and use left and right, or press Win+E (if you have the Expo plugin enabled) and drag and drop.

Note that Desktop Cube does not support multiple rows of desktops.

I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 Beta. Installed Nvidia driver. I am using GeForce6600GT.
Also installed is compizconfig-settings-manager. But when I go to System->preference->appearance
there is no custom option in the visual effects tab. So how do I enable the compiz?
